Remember this?

She was so small.. and so cute! She's still cute, but not very small anymore. :) Today we have her 9 month check up, so I will update on her appointment tomorrow.

This first picture was the first time I saw Paisley. Since she was whisked over to the heated table to get checked over by the NICU people. Didn't even hold her up for me to see. So Josh went over and took a picture, and showed me her on the camera.


Josh's parents also decided to come back today, so they will be finishing up the steps. I figured I'd wait until they were done, rather than posting the progress on that today. We'll reminisce instead. I'm too tired to go down and get my camera and cord in order to put new pictures up. But they will be coming.

Project of the Month

Project of the Month, complete! A train themed rag quilt. It's crib sized, and very cute. I even washed it once to start the fraying process. It will just get increasingly soft the more it is washed. I actually finished this quilt over a week ago! No scrambling at the end of the month for this project.

Saturday Slices

I thought this was too funny. A vault to store your temptations in, that has a timer. You place whatever might tempt you inside, close it up, and set the timer. If you try to open it before the allotted time, it will shock you! :) Found on Go 2 Gadgets:


Crafty Crafty has a tutorial on how to make your own swiffer refills that are reusable. Better for your wallet and the environment.

A little late

Well I'm running behind today, because last night I couldn't get the video working. ANd this morning, I don't have much time, so instead of embedding the video, I'm just sending the link. Sorry :(. I promise to be better.

Josh's parents are coming for the weekend to help do the flooring on stairs, so I'm madly trying to get things put away after finishing the bedroom floor, and trying to get the carpet up. Been difficult, as Paisley is refusing to nap this week.

Separation

Well I've decided it's time to separate my personal blog, and my crafty blog. I've been too busy sewing and getting more items listed in my online stores, that I've decided to create a blog dedicated solely to that. There will of course be some overlap, and some craftiness will remain on this blog, and the Etsy side bar will remain (give you glimpses of the new items listed). I've seen increasing traffic to this blog because of my products, and want to redirect that to my new blog. That way those wanting crafty posts aren't disappointed, and those anxiously awaiting family (read: Paisley) updates and photos aren't disappointed.

So after much thought this is how I'm going to break it down:

I will keep doing my daily posts on here, mainly family updates, photos, and the occasional (maybe weekly) crafty post. I will continue to post my project of the month posts here.

Saturday Slices will be featured on BOTH blogs, as I want to share them with people I know, family, friends, but it also connects me with other crafters.

My crafty blog will have irregular posts (some days with several posts, sometimes a few days in between). On this site I can post items I have completed and have listed in my online stores. I can also post works in progress. Other ideas I have. And probably some crafty disasters. We'll see what it becomes in the end.

If I ever feel that people would like to hear about something I'm posting that is crafty on this side, I will also post it here. It's mainly to separate family and business a little.

It's Monday!

Well, despite it being very difficult to get up this morning, we're up. Josh got home at 2 am, his luggage is still in Chicago. So they said they'll send it to Calgary today, then send it Air Canada to Lethbridge and call us when it gets here. You pay $15 to check a piece of luggage, and it doesn't show up. Oh well. They had some major delays traveling home yesterday.

Paisley and I were in Revelstoke for the week, so yesterday we drove home. It was actually a good drive, roads weren't bad at all, and I got even further caught up with the nearly 300 podcasts that are waiting for me. Only about 375 to go after listening to them on the way there and back.

Goodbye Washington

It's over. DrupalCon officially concluded yesterday. We spent the afternoon doing some site seeing, visiting Georgetown, the White House, Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Smithsonian Museum of American History, and the Capitol Building.

It was a busy finish to the week, and I took 3GB worth of photos! I'll sift through them in the coming days and post some more comprehensive blog posts with some of the stories of our trip.

In short: it's been a great trip, and I think I speak for all of the U of L guys here in saying that we will take a great deal of positive information from our participation at DrupalCon.

Safe arrival in Washington

We made it. At times I didn't think we would, but we made it.

Our DrupalCon journey started off this morning at 2:45am when I got out of bed and got my last few things together for the trip. Jeff was at my place a half hour later to pick me, and subsequently Trevor, up for the drive to Calgary. It was raining pretty heavily in Lethbridge, and as Jeff correctly predicted, that meant snow in Calgary.

The weather deteriorated quickly as we neared Calgary. Heavy snow reduced visibility to the point where we suspected our flight would be significantly delayed. On Barlow Trail, nearing the airport, we saw a taxi cab that had moments earlier rolled in the median; the wheels were still spinning as the cab laid on its roof. Jeff did a great job of enduring the elements to get us safely to the airport.

Our flight in Calgary boarded on time; however, we were delayed on the tarmac waiting for the de-icing truck to make it's way to us. Apparently the de-icing crew was having an unexpectedly busy morning. We ultimately ended up leaving Calgary over an hour late.

We all managed to get a little bit of sleep on the flight, and arrived in Chicago at 1:05pm local time -- just in time to see our connecting flight to Washington take off. Luckily we were re-booked on another flight only an hour later.

We touched down at Washington-Reagan at about 5:00pm local time. After standing around like lost tourists for a while, we eventually figured out what transit passes to buy, and what train to board. We proceeded towards our hotel on the Metro rail, and ultimately got off the train too soon. A transit employee warned us that it would be a very cold walk outside; we assured her it would be no problem, since we are from Canada. We counted on about a four block walk from the station to our hotel, but learned that DC street math isn't like other cities.
Not only to the blocks seem unusually long here, but it seems that numbered streets alternate with streets named for U.S. states. This means that if you are going from 14th street to 17th street, count on it being at least 6 long blocks. We also found that there is a metro stop immediately below our hotel. We've already found this very handy.

We checked in to our hotel and quickly headed out for the Capitals game. We and 19 other DrupalCon attendees took in the game where the Caps disappointed the home crowd, allowing two short-handed goals and losing 5-2. Tomorrow Trevor and I will see about getting tickets for Thursday night's game.

After the game we decided on going for a walk to see the White House and stop at 7-Eleven. I snapped a few photos of the White House and the other buildings along the same block there and then stocked on Cherry Coke. How I miss Cherry Coke. We need a petition to bring this stuff back in Canada.

Wednesday morning we will check-in for DrupalCon and begin with the great sessions that await us. Watch for more tomorrow!

New Carrier

I recently invested in a new carrier for Paisley. I found the cuddly wrap to be harder to use as she's gotten older. Although I love it when she was younger, I find although still comfortable still, because the material is stretchy, now that she's bigger, it slowly loosens as I wear her. SO here is my new Mei Tai. I love it!. Paisley thinks it's a blast to be in it too. These are jsut some quick pictures the day I got it. It's a BabyHawk.

New Feature

I'm always finding new and interesting things on the internet during nap times, and in the evening. So I've decided to start a new feature. Saturdays will now be my Week Review, and I'll share different links, photos, really anything I find interesting. You might find it boring, but just maybe something might interest you as well. But I think it will be fun. We'll try it for a few weeks anyway and see how it goes.

But since I just decided this.... I need some time to gather my bookmarkings for the week. So I will have this week's up later today. :) Look forward to sharing. Now I just need a clever name for this feature. Any suggestions? If I use it, I'll send you a little something!!

Mmmm cake

I made another cake for my class this week.

This time it was a butter pecan cake, with chopped walnuts in it (didn't have pecans), with a Mocha (chocolate and coffee) swiss meringue buttercream icing. I"m looking forward to sampling it today!! In class tonight we had to decorate using clowns. I think they detract from the cake though :(.




The icing is SOO good. I tasted the remnants after icing the cake. And at class tonight... everyone could smell the tastiness, and many were tempted to stick a finger in.

Today I'm hosting friday coffee play group. So they'll be the lucky people to get tastes of it. We've kinda outgrown the coffee shop, so we're starting to do it at people's homes.
