As many of you know, I was once on the U of A rowing team (one year, novice crew). I loved it, and was in the best shape of my life then. I got into rowing, because my dad had bought a Concept 2 rowing machine in the months prior to me going to University. Rowing is a great low impact exercise, that is great for strengthening your knees, back and overall body. It is also a great cardio workout. While at U of A, I introduced Josh (my now husband) to the rowing machine. He loved the workout it gave him! We now own our own machine (since my dad decided to upgrade to a newer model). We plan to start a challenge in September for anyone who is interested. We have a wide variety of entrants so far, with differing fitness levels, some who have been using the rowing machine already, and those who are just about to learn how to use it.
SO if you're interested in joining us, we'd love it! There will be a prize in the end. We are still hashing out some of the details, but thought I would give everyone a heads up. If you might even be slightly interested, I recommend going to your local gym and trying out a concept 2 rowing machine (if you've never used one, get someone at the gym to show you the proper technique.... or you will be tired LONG before you should be on it). Try it out, see what you think, and let us know if it'd be something you'd be interested in.
So far we have the following entrants:
Josh - just starting to get back into it, *low-moderate fitness level
Myself - haven't rowed in 2-3 years, but want to start a fitness routine (what better way than competition) *low fitness level
Bryant (my dad) - used to row regularly, but hasn't rowed in many months *moderate fitness level
We also have a couple of Josh's coworkers interested in trying out the rowing machine, and would like to join, just to have a commitment to jumpstart regular workouts.
Are you interested getting back in shape? Need a challenge, some accountability to do so? Come join us! Doesn't matter if you've never been on a rowing machine in your life, it's a great way to strengthen without impacting your joints. For me, it was a great part of strengthening my knee after my accident as well as post surgery. For my dad, it has relieved and helped with the pains in his hips. Also great for strengthening the lower back, if you find yourself if a sore back frequently. It's a great workout! Try it!
If you don't know where there is a Concept 2 Rowing Machine in your area, let me know, I'll help you track one down!
PRIZES for the top competers! Everyone's got a chance to win, no matter what the fitness level, or how much time you have available. You just have to have an interest, and a little competitiveness.
More details to come. Josh will be setting up a website that will track the results, and have info on it.
