Sneak Peek

Since I've shut down Barefoot Creations for the holidays, I've had all this wonderful free time! I've been baking like crazy, my house is actually STAYING clean, and I'm finding time for other projects! When you consider I spend 6-12 hours/day on Barefoot Creations stuff, it's a huge amount of time I have, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the break.

With the baby on the way, I gave Paisley a choice between staying in her room.. or moving to the room across the hall (a little smaller). She didn't hesitate and said the baby can have her room, and she'll have the other room. :) She even started hauling her stuff over there (but I had to tell her "not yet").

Since she's so eager, I thought I'd get on prepping it for her. I decided I was going to paint an accent wall in it before she moved in... so I set out to do that on Sunday. But once I started, I decided to paint all the walls. Then Sunday night I decided I wanted to paint a very small mural, just below he built in bookcase. I got a little carried away..... here's a sneak peek:



I'm REALLY enjoying this project. I forgot how much I loved painting, drawing, etc. I miss art... sewing, papercrafting and crocheting have become my arts.. but I miss the other parts of it.

I painted for 5 hours tonight, got A LOT more done than I thought I would.... and I just kept adding more and more. There's a few more things I'd like to add tomorrow, plus a little more detail.

I will take more pictures once Paisley is moved into her room.... which won't be til after Christmas.

I'll finish painting tomorrow night, and then we have guests coming on Wednesday until after Christmas. Then she can move in there. She's going to be so excited!

Last night Josh took the pictures for the real-estate agent. We opted to do them ourselves... since real-estate pictures generally are not very descriptive (a picture of a corner... no reference to what/where it is). So here's a link:

We haven't taken a picture of the 3rd bedroom yet (I'm still tackling my craft stuff...), nor the basement. I've been working hard in the garden all day... and Josh will re-take the pictures of the outside with the pretty gardens, and tidied up a little more (plus with the big dumpster gone).

The sign is up, the key box is on the door. Tomorrow the listing goes online!

Paisley's Check Up

Yesterday was Paisley's 9 month check up.

She weighed in at 18 lbs, 9 oz, so she has finally double her birth weight! She is still sitting right on the 50th percentile line for her weight.

She measured 29.5 inches, which actually makes her taller than average for her age. Maybe she'll be taller, like her dad.

I was searching for some pictures of her this week, and apparently I haven't take any yet. So I will make sure to do that today, and upload one to this post. Maybe one of her in her sunhat.

It's been nice and sunny here, but ridiculously windy. I'll take the wind if it means we can continue with these +10 C temperatures. Would be nice to have no wind, so we could go for walks, but at least we can enjoy the sun while we're out and about in the car.

Yay Air Conditioner!

I'm so opposed to Air Conditioners..... well I used to be. Since pregnancy I seem to overheat. I was told I would go back to normal after she was born. Not so much. I'm cooking! It is 32 degrees in our house, and it's almost midnight. Since the temperature dropped outside, we've had fans on and windows open, but it's still 32 in here (was 34 earlier). I think we're all getting a little cranky tonight.

But tomorrow..... we're buying an air conditioner! We found one we liked, and the salesperson told us to wait til Monday, because they are having their friends and families sale. :) So now hopefully,we won't get so cranky hot! Although, we'll be good and set the tolerable window quite large... maybe up to 27 degrees. That's manageable, I think. Guess I should consult with Josh though on that.

Paisley finally went down at 11:30 tonight. SHe's been going down around 9 most nights, so tonight felt like a very long night, as we were both hot, but she wanted to be held. Off to bed, with the 2 fans on. Tomorrow's supposed to be stupidly hot as well.

Sadly, this is global warming, and we're just adding to it with getting an air conditioner. :( But we'll be good and efficient with it. One air conditioner..... we currently have 6 fans on in the house..... wonder which is more efficient.

Renovations

Here's a quick run-down of the renovations that Josh's parents did for us this week:

A quote from my father. Josh's father completely agrees! They're talking about the lack of regular posts with pictures of their grand daughter. We're getting on that! Promise. Tonight, or tomorrow morning there WILL be new pictures. :) It's all about her these days!

In other news, next week is the official launch of my cards and invitation website. August 1st! It came up so fast. But I think I'll be ready. Got a little bit of work to do yet, but then it will be ready. :) Will post a link to it on August 1st, since i don't feel that it's ready for visitors just quite yet.

This week has been busy busy. Josh's parents have been here this week to install new patio doors. Well, they weren't able to get the doors delivered til Thursday, so they've done a ridiculous amount of work around here. They installed new doors on the pantry and the front hall closets (both those doors were in need of repair). There's now mirrored sliding closet doors on them. At first we thought the mirrors would be tacky, and planned to frost them, but once they were up, it was fabulous, makes that floor look so much bigger, and there's so much more light, so we're leaving them as is. Plus Paisley likes looking at herself in them ;). They also are closing the crawlspace off from the basement. The plan is to install a cat door in the basement door, and the cats litter boxes and food will be down there. Currently the litter boxes are in the downstairs bathroom, right next to the front door. This means that if there's a fresh you know what, it's the first thing you smell when you come in our house. So this will not be the case anymore. And the food is currently in the dining room, but Teemo loves to tip over his water dishes, so you're constantly stepping in water when you go to the kitchen. So this solves a few problems.

Anyway, Paisley is down for a nap, and I want to take this opportunity to get my laundry out on the clothes line. :)

More Renos

Well we spent our Saturday working around the house. We got the first coat done in the spare bedroom in the morning, and then a second coat in the evening. This room will be used as the baby's room eventually, although right now it has all the furniture for the extra bedroom (which we are waiting for the tennant to move out of before we can do anything with it). So here's couple pictures of the work done:

I also got a chance to work in the garden yesterday. Twenty degree weather in April, not complaining. Hopefully today I'll get some more done in the garden.

I am no officially done classes. :) I'm so happy about that. Have 3 exams to write still, one today (a take home), one this week (just a multiple choice webct based exam) and then one April 24th, which will be brutal (but I'm sitting with 100% in the course, so I am sitting very well going into it). Then I will be a graduate. Only took me 6 years! (or was it 7?)

I've also gotten a chance to do lots of crafting this last month. I'm actually pretty well caught up to my card a day status.... although I usually make 6 -12 at once... not one everyday. Here's just a few of the cards I've made recently:






Josh is headed to Vancouver today, until Wednesday for a conference, so the house will be quite quiet. I'm hoping to get a lot of things done while he is gone, just organization and such. The next two weekends we will also be travelling and getting some visiting in. Then it's May. Time is going very fast!

Living room laminate floors: complete

Thanks to my Readers Digest handyman book, and some support calls to my Dad I finally finished the laminate flooring in the living room. I'd hoped this would've only taken a few evenings, but given that we live in a four-plex, I had to shut down around 9 each evening. Add a couple nights off, and it turned into a week long job.



It's good to have this phase of the project finished. Now we can spend some time enjoying the living room again. In particular, the cats are going to appreciate that the construction has ceased for a bit.

Post weekend update

So after painting all weekend (a little tiring), we've now completed step one of our renvations. The colour looks great. There were a few mishaps, the most major one being this:


Josh accidently bumped into the paint can, which actually left us JUST short on paint for the walls. But on the plus side, we tore up the carpet and are now doing laminate. Josh is hoping to get installation started this week. Currently we have about half of the carpet in the living room pulled up, and we have stacks of laminate now in our dining room just waiting:



So that is this week's project (well, next couple weeks, since we are headed to Calgary on the weekend). We are planning to do the living room, hallway, landing outside the master bedroom, master bedroom and the 3 flights of stairs connecting all that. We figured if we decide to do the other 2 bedrooms at a later date, we can always get a different laminate.

Anyway, just a quick update. Our renovations are progressing and we have laid out our plans for the next few months. Sadly currently the only room that is fully useable at this point in time is our bedroom (which has some extra stuff piled in it, and the main bathroom. Everywhere else is in chaos at the moment. I'm aiming to get the kitchen in working order again today (just a lot of clutter from painting and such).

After a week of work (and getting stuck, due to the lack of supplies), the room is now almost complete. Just waiting for the bed to arrive (tonight) and have to hang the shelves (which we decided to do once the bed is in there. Oh, and I need to hem the curtains, but I'll do that tonight while they assemble the bed. :) Then it will be done! I'll post pictures then! It looks so good already!

I'm barely working these days. I had 3 scheduled shift this week.. all about 4 hours. Next week I get 2 shifts. One is 4 hours one is 3.5. I don't know how I'm going to get by on such few hours. It's very frustrating, since I talked to her at the beginning of the summer, and made a decision then not to get a second job. And initially I was getting enough hours, but now I'm getting very little hours. I get 2 shifts, everyone else gets 3 shifts. Last week I got 3, and everyone else got 4. I don't get it. But whatever. She knows finances are tight right now for us as well...

Tuesday night I started on my Christmas cards! It was loads of fun. I'm getting together all my samples for this year... decide which I'm going to make. I think Josh and I decideed to do a photo tag one.

Anyway back to work around the house. I've got loads to do today, plus I work this afternoon (after 6 days of no shifts).

Tonight Josh and I prepped our bedroom for painting! :) Tomorrow I will be painting, 2 coats hopefully will be enough. If not I'll do a third coat on Friday morning before the bed arrives. We're doing a Japanese bedroom. I've got my paint colour (obviously), a bamboo rug, a platformish bed, a rock garden/candle set, two framed prints. I still need to find a duvet cover, and some curtains. :) I also need to make a print of a photo I have and get it framed.

I'm excited to finally see it coming together.

Tomorrow I will paint in the morning, go to my pedicure in the afternoon and paint again before dinner...
